Can you wash a cashmere cape with real fox fur in a washing machine? At first, I would have said, “Absolutely not!” and “Under no circumstances!” However, after my successful experiments washing other cashmere items in the washing machine, as well as washing a genuine sheepskin rug, I decided to take the “risk” and wash my beloved cashmere cape with a natural fur trim in the washing machine. So, How to Safely Machine Wash a Cashmere Cape?
Cashmere cape before washing
Let me tell you in advance that I am pleasantly surprised by the quality and the results of cleaning my cashmere items in the washing machine. So, I’d like to share with you how I washed my cashmere cape with real fur trim in the washing machine:
Step 1:
I placed the cape in a spacious bag (since I didn’t have a special bag for delicate items, I used a regular cotton one). I did this to minimize the risk of damaging the fur during the spin cycle.
Step 2:
I selected the delicate cycle with a strong wash in cold water. I added a cashmere-specific laundry detergent with lanolin and LAVONS Syarevons Gentle Laundry Detergent Luxury Relax wash directly into the drum and the detergent compartment of the washing machine. This Japanese detergent effectively removes dirt and has an incredibly gentle and luxurious aroma.
Step 3.
After washing, I put the cape in the dryer, choosing the delicate setting.
Step 4:
After drying in the machine, I hung the cape on a wooden hanger to “air out” and completely dried it at room temperature. If necessary, the item can be steamed to remove any creases or wrinkles. I skipped this step as the washing results were entirely satisfactory.

Fantastic results! The cashmere cape came out clean without any shrinkage or deformation. The fur became soft and fluffy, even better than when I first bought it from the store!
