Creating a cozy Hygge atmosphere at home is a true delight with shearling rug; they infuse comfort and warmth into your living spaces. And that’s when the question arises: How do you go about washing a shearling rug?
Just envision the pleasure of stepping onto a sheepskin rug on a chilly winter evening. With proper care, any item can serve you well for years.
Sheepskin rugs are known for their resilience against dirt, but inevitably, they will require cleaning. How about washing a shearling rug?
Here’s the process of washing a shearling rug in the washing machine:
First and foremost, it’s crucial to recognize that sometimes, all your rug needs is a good shake to allow dust, lint, and dirt to dislodge. Additionally, a vacuum cleaner can serve as an effective cleaning tool. However, when dealing with substantial soiling, washing becomes a necessity. You can opt for either handwashing or using an automatic washing machine. To ensure a gentle cleaning process, utilize lukewarm water.
I personally chose to wash my shearling rug in the washing machine, employing the delicate cycle and cold water. For washing my natural sheepskin, I used Japanese detergent LAVONS Syarevons Gentle Laundry Detergent Luxury Relax, which is available on Amazon.
My rug before washing:
After the shearling rug underwent the washing process, I carefully placed it in the dryer, selecting the delicate drying cycle.
Following drying, I meticulously combed the wool using a special brush (a pet slicker brush) and allowed it to finish drying at room temperature.
The outcome of washing the shearling rug in the washing machine left me completely satisfied: the rug emerged cleaner and retained its initial properties.
